One of many things I have learned during my time on the bench is that experience matters. I have been a licensed attorney for over 40 years. I have practiced law in small and large firms and have represented clients in large and small counties. During my first term, I have authored written opinions in both civil and criminal cases that apply the law with care and precision, and I have worked collaboratively with my colleagues to serve our District and the State of Texas.
I have also learned the value of public service. As a 5th generation lawyer, my family has been committed to serving Texas since 1876, as Justice, Judge, Legislator, District Attorney, County Clerk, Sheriff, Texas Ranger, School Board Member, and Educator. I understand and appreciate the important role that judges play in our daily lives, and I will always place my responsibility to the people of Texas first.
It is important that judges follow the law and apply it in a manner that is consistent and fair. If re-elected, I will continue to bring honesty, integrity, and collegiality to the 1st Court of Appeals, and will work diligently and efficiently to retain the respect and trust of those who appear before me.
Thank you for your continuing support, and I respectfully ask for your vote in the upcoming 2024 election.
Sincerely,
Richard Hightower, Justice, 1st Court of Appeals, Place 8
